Liberty, MO (April 30, 2023) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of an automobile accident in Clay County that resulted in injuries.
MSHP was notified of the crash at approximately 7:20 a.m. on April 29.
According to officials, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, a 2008 Toyota Yaris, and a 2018 Kia Soul were all stopped on the westbound side of Missouri State Route 210 due to construction on the road ahead.
For unknown reasons, the driver of a 2014 Ford Escape attempted to slow down before crashing into the rear of the Chevrolet. The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to crash into the Toyota, which pushed the Toyota forward into the rear of the Kia. The Ford went off the side of the roadway.
Two people involved in the crash were injured. Emergency medical services responded to the scene to render aid to the victims. 23-year-old Jacob Van Oster was transported to Liberty Hospital for the treatment of injuries. The second victim, 80-year-old Donald Gifford, was transported by Excelsior Springs EMS to the same hospital for medical care.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
