Bates City, MO – Michael Kniest Loses Life in Truck Crash on I-70 near MM 31.4

Bates City, MO (September 9, 2023) – A 45-year-old man from Columbia, Missouri, lost his life as a result of a fatal truck accident that occurred in Lafayette County.

At approximately 3:26 p.m. on September 7, troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 70.

Reports show that a collision between a 2000 Harley-Davidson and a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia took place on the westbound side of the intersection. The impact of the collision caused the rider to be ejected from their vehicle near mile marker 31.4. The motorcycle was severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene. The Freightliner was also towed from the scene of the accident.

The motorcyclist, identified as Michael Kniest, was severely injured. He was transported by ambulance to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

At this time, the incident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
