Fatal Auto Accidents in Missouri

Fatal crash statistics from 2022 show that approximately 1028 people died as a result of automobile accidents in the state. Authorities reported that this is the third year in a row that saw a significant increase in the number of accidents that occurred. Unfortunately, the total number of deaths reported in 2022 is the highest that the state has seen since the year 2006.

There are many factors that contribute to fatal accidents taking place across our state. In many instances, these crashes can be attributed to negligence. Leading factors include:

  • Impairment: Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances impairs a driver's judgment, coordination, and reaction times. As a result, drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicles or engage in other acts of negligence that can ultimately lead to fatal collisions.
  • Failing to yield: Ignoring traffic rules and failing to yield the right-of-way can lead to dangerous situations at intersections and while merging onto highways. Unfortunately, when drivers fail to yield to others, it can result in serious T-bone collisions or even high-speed collisions, both of which can have devastating results.
  • Distractions: Distractions, such as texting, talking on the phone, adjusting the radio, or eating while behind the wheel. When people do not have their attention on the road, they are far less likely to react to sudden changes in traffic or even hazards on the road ahead.
