Kansas City, MO (September 29, 2023) – Several people were injured due to a motor vehicle accident in Clay County on Wednesday morning, September 27.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified of the crash at approximately 7:25 a.m.
According to reports from MSHP Cpl. B.E. Thoman, the driver of a 2022 Kenworth T880 dump truck failed to slow for congestion on the southbound side of Interstate 35 just 179 feet south of mile marker 10. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a 2016 Nissan Sentra.
The impact of the crash then sent the truck forward, where it struck a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The Chevrolet Silverado was then forced to head where it collided with the 2016 Toyota Rav4.
The Toyota and the Chevrolet were both totaled in the accident and had to be towed from the scene. The Kenworth truck was extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
Four people were injured due to this crash. The Kansas City Fire Department EMS responded to care for the victims. The victims were all transported to North Kansas City Hospital. They were identified as 30-year-old Zachariah Smith of Mayville, Missouri, 31-year-old Eric Williamson of Independence, Missouri, 33-year-old Christopher King of Grandview, Missouri, and 66-year-old Nanci Burchell of Kansas City.
The accident is being investigated at this time.
