Lawson, MO (September 18, 2023) – A motor vehicle collision reported in Ray County claimed one teen’s life while sending a second victim to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The motor vehicle collision was reported to the Missouri State Highway Patrol just before 9:00 p.m. on September 15.
According to official reports provided by MSHP trooper IL Kimball, a collision involving a 2002 Ford truck took place on Atkins Road. As a result, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway just one-half a mile north of Route C. The vehicle overturned and collided with a tree before coming to rest.
One person involved in the accident, identified as a 17-year-old male from Liberty, Missouri, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second victim, a 15-year-old male from Lawson, Missouri, was severely injured. He was transported by LifeFlight to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, for emergency care.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Major Crash Team investigator is currently working to determine the cause of the crash.
