Kansas City, MO (January 27, 2024) – A woman was transported to an area hospital with injuries following a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Platte County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified of the crash at approximately 10:45 a.m. on January 25. According to law enforcement reports, a 2012 Honda Civic hydroplaned on Interstate 29 while traveling on the southbound side of the roadway. As a result, the vehicle entered the path of a 2014 Buick Verano, causing the two vehicles to collide.
After impact, both of the vehicles went off the right side of the roadway, where they collided with the guard rail. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and had to be towed from the scene. A passenger in the Buick, identified as 51-year-old Tonya Gilyard of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was injured. She was transported by Kansas City Fire EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital on Barry Road for emergency care. At this time, the crash is being investigated.
