Green Twp., MO (July 12, 2024) – Three people have lost their lives as a result of a major motor vehicle accident that occurred in Platte County on Thursday, July 11. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene at around 12:10 a.m.
Official reports show that a 2017 Ford Edge was traveling on Interstate 29. As the vehicle proceeded down the southbound side of the roadway while heading northbound, it crashed head-on into a 2007 Honda Odyssey near mile marker 29.4. The impact of the crash caused the Honda to go off the side of the roadway and collide with a concrete barrier. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.
Three people involved in the collision were fatally injured. The victims were identified as 52-year-old Michelet Metellus, 54-year-old Sheyla Similien, and 55-year-old Joel Similien. Multiple other victims were injured in the collision. Emergency medical services provided treatment to 33-year-old Vladimyr Mercier, 34-year-old Kyle Mendez, 37-year-old Jacnert Lubin, 54-year-old Franckel Francois, and Herilert Bellot. Mercier was transported to Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. The other victims were all transported to North Kansas City Hospital for medical care. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
