Warrensburg, MO – Two Killed, Three Hurt in Car Crash on US-50

Warrensburg, MO (June 12, 2024) – A fatal motor vehicle accident reported in Johnson County claimed the lives of two people while leaving multiple others injured. The collision took place at around 12:50 p.m. on June 10.

Police reports indicate a 16-year-old male was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado on US Highway 50. For unknown reasons, the driver fell asleep while behind the wheel. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway before reentering it. The car then crossed over the roadway and collided with a 2022 Acura RDX. Both vehicles then went off the east side of the road, where the Acura collided with a street sign.

Two people involved in the accident, identified as 55-year-old Derek Moffett and 83-year-old Patricia Moffett, were both fatally injured. Both victims were pronounced deceased by authorities. Three additional victims were injured. 19-year-old Alexandria Moffett and a 16-year-old female were both transported by LifeFlight to the Research Medical Center for emergency treatment. The 16-year-old male was transported to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
