Lee’s Summit, MO (May 24, 2024) – A major truck accident reported in Jackson County sent several victims to area hospitals with injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene at around 6:25 p.m. on May 22.
Preliminary reports show that a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck were traveling eastbound on Interstate 470. As the vehicle stopped due to traffic congestion near mile marker 5.6, a 2016 Nissan Murano crashed into the rear of the Hyundai. The impact of the crash caused the Hyundai to strike the Dodge. The Nissan then collided with a 2020 International truck tractor. The Hyundai and the Nissan were both totaled in the accident. All four vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to the extent of damage.
Four people involved in the crash were injured. Emergency medical services responded to the scene to render aid to a 16-year-old female. She was transported to St. Luke’s East Hospital for emergency treatment. Three additional victims, identified as 18-year-old Alpha Wynkoop, 21-year-old Sofiya Borovytska, and 39-year-old Cedrick Lyles, were all transported to Centerpoint Medical Center for emergency treatment. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
