Lee’s Summit, MO – Two Injured in Four-Vehicle Wreck on I-470

Lee’s Summit, MO (September 20, 2024) – Two women were transported to area hospitals with injuries following a crash in Jackson County on Thursday morning, September 19.

At around 8:00 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified that an auto accident took place on Interstate 470. Preliminary investigations show that a Chevrolet Colorado, a Jeep Cherokee, a Honda CRV, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee were all traveling westbound on the interstate. As the vehicles proceeded through the area just east of View High, the Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed into the rear of the Honda. The impact of the crash caused the Honda to crash into the rear of the Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep Cherokee then pushed forward and collided with the back end of the Chevrolet Colorado.

The Honda was totaled in the accident. Both Jeeps sustained extensive damage. Two people involved in the accident were injured. The victims, identified as 69-year-old Lois Copeland and 48-year-old Melissa Kersterson-Cole, were both injured in the crash. Copeland was transported to Center Point Hospital for treatment, while Kersterson-Cole was transported to Saint Luke’s East. At this time, the incident is being investigated.

We hope Lois Copeland and Melissa Kersterson-Cole recover quickly from their injuries.
